Sure. Seriously, government schools have..what..1 subject in English? And you're asking about why they're not good at it..? As obvious as it is, private school students study more than 6 languages in English. Not to mention the qualified and skilled teacher, and the studying system it self.

In my opinion , with my best respect to all english teachers i think its staff fault.
if teachers doesnt speak a word in arabic in public schools.
if teachers give students a home work of writing everyday
if teachers give their students 20 new words every day to memorise and spell.
if teachers give a chance to all student to speak english
if teacher have their own way of making homeworks and working in class comparsory and fun.
if ...and....if
im sure english in public schools in oman will improve

disagree with you in things
first, we cannot put the blame only on the staff
I'm not gonna here talk about whose fault it is
because this would take very long
second, teachers must use Arabic in teaching English
especially in explaining the meaning of some words
suppose a student asks: " what is the meaning of the word achievement"
If the teacher didn't use Arabic
he would say " achievement is something which someone has succeeded in doing, especially after a lot of effort"
The students is unlikely to understand, and if he understood
it would take him much time to write the definition of the word in his notebook
but if the teacher used Arabic and said (انجاز
The student would understand easily and the meaning would be clearer in his mind and he is likely to memorize the word
Do you know that in France, the French language is used as much as English in English classes
So, the bottom line is Arabic is need in English classes
Thirdly, it isn't possible to teach students 20 words as well as give them a writing homework everyday
this is too much
They have other subjects to study

well ! ...in my opinion its the teaching method that is not sufficient ! ..plus how do you expect students to be fluent if even the teachers mess up ! ..another thing is that they dont consider the fact that not everybody obserbs the language easily ! ...so there are levels of english ! ...but they dont consider that ! ...plus nobody helps you ! ...if you dont get it in the fourth grade or something then thats it you will fail in english your whole life because they ignore the fact that some students dont have the same learning pase as others .....the teaching method IS COMPLETLY WRONG ...what they are doing is base all english on writing and reading ! ...its stupid ! ...in order to understand any language you have to practise ! ...i learnt german and because of the sufficient teaching method it was very easy to catch ! ...how is it that people can be fluent in a language they never new a single word in only 6 months ! and students that have been studying the language for 12 years and still have really really bad english ! ...i dont know ! ...i blame the teaching method ....not the students !

thanx for the thread !

so what does it mean to be in a govermental school with a weak english???????????????????????????????

i studied in a govermental school for 12 years...you know what i've done then???

i knew it was no use to wait until someone come and feed me with his spoon....i worked by ma self to learn english

i read, wrote, listened and spokke everyday in english ....

wallahy it's better to study in a govermrntal schools more that in private one!!!!

and it was really nice and interesting to study english by me self

i felt fed up and tired but that did not stop me from making my wisheds come true!!!

it's STUDENTS' mistake not to be good in english

what do they need more than a book?

what do they need more than a network?

what do they need more than a tv?

what do they need more than a library?

what do they need more than a relaxing life and bed?

tell me now whatt's the difference between me and those who studied in govermental schools? فـ رأسي ريشه يعني عشان أكون أعقل؟؟ وأحسن

why don't we workk by our selves and sleep to blame the government?

simply

lazy students

What does them being in a high school has to do with the fact that they're not that good at English?

As some mentioned, it usually depends on the person him/her self, so the blame goes to both the school and the student.

why don't students in the public schools have a strong english? what do you think the main reasons? is it stuff's fault i mean teachers' quality or other enviromental factors?
well sis I wouldn't say its someones fault but the students themselves coz now we have the facilities that help us to learn anything we want to learn.....
I mean come on...
you can find a littel boy dealing with mobiles as an expert who taught him?
nobody he just tried...
not to mention internet using and playstation do u think someone will be taught how to use them?
the only way to learn such things is to put some effort and try...
besides.. you do have your own teacher at home..
T.V. you can learn english from it...
speaking of myself I graduated from a public school and I mainly got my english using television and books..
someimes I used to ignore the story of a film and focus on the words, try to write them and look for the meanings in the dictionary...
so lets not blame anybody for our own faults and laziness...
sorry I didn't mean to be rude but this is the truth!!!

In my opinion both takes the blame. The teaching methods are not very appealing and encouraging to learn the language as well as students don’t make any extra efforts to improve and learn things outside the curriculum. My friend studied in public schools and she speaks a fluent English with an American accent! just becoz she used to read lots of English books and watch movies and of course practicing. If u don’t practice u will easily forget what u have learnt.
