The Omani pavilion at Shanghai Expo 2010 was opened today under the auspices of Mohsin bin Khamis al Balushi , Advisor of the Commerce and Industry Ministry and the General Commissioner of the Sultanate's pavilion.

The opening ceremony was attended by Sheikh Abdullah bin Saleh al Sadi, the Sultanate's ambassador to the People's Republic of China, Hassan bin Mohammed al Lawati, Director General of Museums and Monuments at the Heritage and Culture Ministry and deputy general commissioner of the Sultanate's pavilion.

The pavilion showcases the details and components of the Sultanate through audio, visual and printed means. The visual mean reflects the Omani environment through the pavilion on the ‘market' area which embody the life of the Omani man, his society, way of living and the traditional crafts he practices.

As for the audio part, it presents the Omani songs and music. The ‘Future' area highlights the achievements made by the Sultanate during the last 40 years, the future projects plans, such as, ports, infrastructure, tourism and, private sector achievements which shows the developments made in sports, education, vocational training and women through books and screens.

The ‘publication' department provides comprehensive information on the sultanate in an easy way through a technology that facilitate provision of the information supported with pictures.

In a statement, Sheikh Abdullah bin Saleh al Saadi, the Sultanate's ambassador to People's Republic of China said that the Sultanate has taken the decision to participate because it has more than 1500 years old distinguished relations.

He said that the Sultanate consider China a major economic partner. The political relations between the two countries are also witnessing great developments as both countries reached the level of strategic consultations through the sessions that are held alternatively in both capitals.

He affirmed that these relations are witnessing constant growth. The reciprocal trade hit more than $12 billion, which is an economic leap in itself. While the Sultanate has investments in this big country, Chinese companies are also working in different fields in the Sultanate.

He pointed out that there is a big participation by the economic and investment sectors, as well as, others in the Sultanate to showcase the Omani rich history and culture. He added that he believes that the Omani pavilion will enjoy high turn out by visitors.

He added that since the first day of opening the Sultanate's pavilion, visitors began to pour on it. He affirmed the Sultanate's keenness to be permanently present in these international forums and that he is happy that this exhibition coincides with the Sultanate's celebration to mark the 40th National Day.

On his part, Hassan bin Mohammed al Lawati, Director General of Monuments and Museums, Deputy General Commissioner for the Sultanate's pavilion said that participation at Expos is not the first of its kind as the Sultanate is very keen on participation at such exhibitions but the participation at Shanghai Expo 2010 is different. He expects that the pavilion will achieve record levels in all normal indicators for Expos in terms of the visitors, the size of the area and the number of participants.

In a press statement, he said that as per Expo statistics, about 246 countries, organizations, world companies and Chinese provinces are taking part at the exhibition. The number of visitors to the exhibition is about 70 million. He described the Omani participation, as testified by those who visited the pavilion at the first day and even before official opening as ‘distinguished'. He added that the visitors hailed the components of the Omani pavilion, its designs and the materials availed for the public.

The Oman Information Ministry represented by Oman News Agency will take part at this important international event with a photo exhibition; as part of the events held at the Omani pavilion in Shanghai Expo 2010.

The 1st participation for ONA will be through an exhibition which includes 40 pictures during the Sultanate's celebration of the National Day. The pictures highlight the economic boom in the city, the cultural diversity, the interaction between city and countryside, the reformation of the residential complexes in the city and the scientific and technological innovation in the city.

The second participation of ONA will be through an exhibition held to mark the Omani Woman Day which falls on October 17th. 20 pictures will highlight the interest accorded to the Omani woman since the beginning of the Renaissance march under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said till today. They also reflect the royal attention accorded by His majesty the Sultan to woman and her active role in the Renaissance march, as will as, her contribution to different fields especially Majlis A'Shura and the activities and programmes of the Omani Woman Associations

On the other hand, Abdullah bin Hmaad al Atiya , Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Industry in the sisterly state of Qatar visited the Sultanate's Pavilion in Shanghai exhibition 2010 today.

Al Attiyah was received by Mohsin bin Khamis al Balushi , Advisor of the Commerce and Industry Ministry and General commissioner of the Sultanate's Pavilion gave a detailed presentation on the contents of the Omani pavilion which includes the history , geography of the Sultanate, the existing industries and the landmarks of the modern Renaissance in the Sultanate.

The Qatari Minister of Energy and Industry said in a statement after the visit that the Shanghai Exhibition 2010 is a good opportunity to brief others on the Gulf heritage, culture and industries, especially the exhibition is held this year in Shanghai, which is considered one the biggest industrially developed and intensely populated cities in the world.

He added that this is a precious opportunity for the AGCC countries, to showcase through their pavilions, their traditional crafts, the industrial progress they made in different domains to give visitors a good idea about the economic and construction growth in these countries.

He also pointed out that AGCC countries, including the Sultanate, witness a growing development in industry, services, infrastructure, education, health, roads and communications.

Shiakhah Mai bint Mohammed al Khalifa, Information and Culture Minster in the Kingdom of Bahrain also visited the Omani pavilion at Shanghai Expo 2010.

She said that the Omani pavilion show cases the spirit of this beautiful country with its components and aflaj. It also reflects the human activities, crafts work and the architecture inspired from the Omani environment.

She pointed out that the Sultanate and sisterly countries' contribution to Shanghai Expo 2010 is a good opportunity that should be utilized to reflect our rich history and culture, as well as, our aspiration towards a prosperous future. (ONA)
