Ok, think about it:
If what happened to Hassan because of Amir didn't happen and if Amir didn't find out that Hassan were actually his unfortunate step-brother, would he feel guilty and eventually determined to save his son?!!
I don't think so. The drive to his bravery and devotion is but : guilt and seeking for redemption

Well there were two parts (phases) in the story..
When they were kids,, and when Amir grew up..
My fav part was when they were kids and the friendship bond that was between them and how Hassan treated Amir,, and the things he had to go through for his friend "Amir"..
And when Amir Knew about Hassan's son,, he felt obliged to find him,, in my opinion,, not because he found that Hassan was his half brother,, but because he felt it was his duty as how he treated Hassan when they were young and how he responded toward that !
Do you get what i mean
