Muscat, Oman — March 15, 2009

AMIDEAST announces that applications are currently being accepted for the Fulbright Foreign Student Program, which is funded by the U.S. Deparment of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by AMIDEAST. This highly presitgious scholarship program is a two-year fellowship, designed to give university graduates the opportunity to pursue a graduate degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) at a U.S. university. Established in 1946, the Fulbright Foreign Student Program was founded to foster mutual understanding among nations through educational and cultural exchange.

A total of 33 Omanis have participated in the program since 2001, including 8 who are currently in the U.S. I am very proud that I am a Fulbrighter,” said Hamdan Al Waheibi, who is currently studying for his Ph.D. in Agriculture at Colorado State University. I want to thank all the AMIDEAST staff for their efforts and their cooperation.”

Things have been great here in Texas,” said Said Al Tooqi, who is studying for his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering at the University of Texas – Arlington. I really wish to see more Omani Fulbrighters in the U.S. in the coming years. I did not face any problems during my application process. The employees in AMIDEAST, Oman, have always been kind with us and acted very professionally and helped us a lot towards winning this grant. Fulbrighters should be grateful for the services and benefits they have been receiving since they first applied for the program, and I'm sure they are.”

The U.S. Embassy and AMIDEAST recently nominated 13 Omanis for Fulbright scholarships starting in Fall 2009, and AMIDEAST is currently accepting applications for the academic year starting in Fall 2010. This is a wonderful opportunity for Omanis representing a variety of fields, from Organizational Psychology to Petroleum Engineering,” said Salim Al Badi, AMIDEAST’s Educational Adviser and Scholarship Officer. We are honored to be able to administer this program on behalf of the U.S. Embassy, and to enable so many Omanis fulfill their dreams of studying in the U.S.”

Eligibility requirements include Omani citizenship, a four-year Bachelor’s degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, and a TOEFL score of 79-80 (Internet-Based TOEFL). Other requirements are outlined on the AMIDEAST website: www.amideast.org

The deadline for online applications for scholarships beginning in September 2010 is June 5, 2009. Applications can only be completed online at https://apply.embark.com/student/ful...ernational/20/ . AMIDEAST will be conducting public information sessions this month and in April.
